I don't have those experiences, but I do remember how much tighter money was for my parents when I was a child than it is for me. I was careful with money as a young teen and a student, and my shopping-and-hoarding habits date from then I think.

It's the everyday things, like being able to just stop and get chinese on the way home when I'm exhausted and can't face cooking: I can't do it every day, but I can certainly do it once a week without worrying about the cost.
