I cautiously think the "drop" in sleep goal to 7 hours is achieving what I'd hoped: more consistent nights, rather than alternating short and long nights. I'm having fewer evenings staying up to midnight, and more mornings getting back to sleep after I wake at dawn, so I get the 7 hours in total. I'm not sure it's making any dramatic difference to my overall capacity, or at least not yet.
