I know I said I wasn't that keen on nerding about voting systems but I actually think closed party list systems are worse than First Past The Post.

They encourage tribalism among voters (how does an independent get in?), and they encourage candidates to focus on internal-party-politicking rather than working for their constituents. If a party parachutes a preferred candidate into the top spot over a well-liked local candidate, there's no way for local supporters of the party to rebel. (LibDems hold internal party elections to determine list order, but not all parties do that, and the issue remains that the party members are getting a choice the electorate aren't.)
